FEATURE OVERVIEW

Features

What the current app actually does: live previews, fast slot switching, overlay control, and practical multibox quality-of-life.

🪟

Previews & peek

  • Previews show live thumbnails of your background EVE clients via Windows' own DWM thumbnail API — no screen capture involved.
  • Hover over any preview to peek that client into the master rect — the displaced master moves to the tile's position. Leaves on cursor exit.
  • Click a tile to commit the swap: the client becomes your new master slot.
  • Overlay windows are transparent tool windows that never steal focus or appear in the taskbar.
  • Preview labels sit inside the tile at whichever of nine positions you pick, and each seat can place its own — a name centered over a small thumbnail can move to the top when that same seat is the big master client.
  • Give a seat a label alias to show your own text instead of the character name. Cosmetic only: window matching still uses the real name.
  • Hide previews while EVE isn't the active app (with an adjustable delay), hide the tile for whichever client you're currently playing, and hide clients still sitting on the login screen.
  • Hover zoom magnifies a preview up to 8x, and each seat can set its own zoom strength and the corner it grows from, so a tile against a screen edge expands inward.
  • Drag or resize tiles directly on the overlay, optionally snapped to a pixel grid.
  • Previews always show the whole client window. EveDeck will not crop one down to just a HUD or capacitor — displaying part of a client is against the EVE EULA, and that restriction is enforced in code, not just documented.
📐

Layout profiles

  • Profiles store slot positions as fractional rects and scale to whatever monitor resolution you're running at — no rebuild needed for VSR or DSR.
  • Built-in Grid, Center Master, Whammy Board, Side Stack, and Twin Stack families for 2–15 accounts — each targets a single monitor you pick from a dropdown.
  • Custom profiles can span two or more physical monitors: build one with the on-monitor WYSIWYG editor and drag slots onto any connected display — one profile drives the whole desktop, no per-monitor juggling.
  • Drag slots on the mini-map to assign which account corner positions and per-profile master.
  • Apply a profile to all detected EVE clients in one click or bind it to a hotkey.
  • If your designated master's client isn't running, EveDeck temporarily promotes the next seat in line to master until the real one comes back.
  • Setting a seat as master pins it to the top of the seat list so the order always reads master-first — your manual seat arrangement is preserved underneath and comes back untouched.
  • Rename any custom profile from the Layouts tab or with F2, so "Custom Layout 3" can become "Mining 5-box". Built-in presets stay as shipped; duplicate one first if you want your own name on it.
  • Config profiles switch your whole setup at once — a layout, a character set, and every overlay appearance setting bundled under one name like "Mining" or "PvP". Pick one from the tray icon, or have EveDeck restore your last one on startup.
  • Config profiles point at a layout and character set rather than copying them, so editing a layout once updates every config profile that uses it.
🧑‍🚀

Character identity & ESI

  • Link EVE accounts with PKCE OAuth via Fenris Creations' ESI — portraits and character names appear on every tile.
  • Fixed seat model: each account always occupies the same slot number regardless of which window is currently centered.
  • Setup wizard walks you through pairing accounts in under two minutes.
  • Per-seat custom labels work alongside ESI names so you can alias alts.
  • A seat holds up to three characters; pick which one is the main with a single click and its portrait, info flyout and skill queue become the seat's. Your typed seat label is left alone.
  • An info button on each preview opens a flyout card for that character, pulled live from ESI: wallet balance, current ship, location, jump fatigue, the skill in training right now, total SP, and the system's recent-kill danger level — and every row can be toggled off in Options.
  • Optional jump fatigue and jump-reactivation-timer badges sit right on the preview itself, so you don't need to open the flyout to see whether a character can jump again yet — hover either badge for the exact time remaining.
  • Optional seat health alerts: a toast when a character gets podded — cross-checked against zKillboard so a deliberate bare-pod flight or an in-station ship swap doesn't trigger a false alarm — and a toast when ESI reports a client's session disconnected while its window is still open.

Hotkeys & focus control

  • System-wide hotkeys registered with Win32 RegisterHotKey — no window focus required to trigger them.
  • Gated mode dynamically unregisters hotkeys when EVE isn't the foreground app, so bare keys never hit EVE chat.
  • Built-in actions: focus slot N, cycle forward/back, apply layout, swap active window to master, toggle borderless.
  • Direction hotkeys (focus left/right/up/down) navigate the grid spatially based on seat positions.
  • Cycle groups give each swap group its own forward/back hotkeys, so you can rotate just your scouts or just your DPS; shift-click a preview to drop a seat out of the rotation without unassigning it.
  • A force-refresh hotkey re-registers every preview on demand for the rare case one goes stale.
  • A dedicated hotkey (Ctrl+Alt+B by default) jumps you straight back to whatever non-EVE window — a browser, Discord, a spreadsheet — you were using before you switched into EveDeck's focus flow.
🖥️

Desktop & system

  • Borderless windowed mode strips title bars and borders without changing EVE's internal resolution.
  • Atomic window moves use BeginDeferWindowPos so all clients reposition in a single pass with no visible flicker.
  • Minimize to tray, launch with Windows, and auto-apply layout when new clients are detected.
  • Settings backup snapshots on every launch — rolling recent and daily backups with one-click restore or JSON export.
  • Active client frame: a subtle glow outline follows whichever EVE window currently has focus, with adjustable thickness, radius, and color.
  • Per-seat 'pin' toggle keeps a window always-on-top, but only while an EVE client is the foreground app — it steps aside the moment you tab to something else.
  • In-app auto-update: EveDeck checks for a new release, then applies it with one click — a silent in-place upgrade for installer users, a self-updating restart for the portable build.
  • Overlay allow-list keeps chosen companion apps (Mumble, RIFT, pyfa, Discord, Pidgin by default) visible above the corner overlays even while an EVE client has focus.
  • Background EVE clients automatically run at lower CPU priority so your active client always gets first call on the CPU.
  • Optional EcoQoS power throttling parks background clients on efficiency cores and lets Windows clock them down — and it deliberately spares whichever client you'd cycle to next, so it's already back at full speed when you land on it. Pure OS scheduling: EveDeck never injects anything into an EVE client to cap its frame rate.
  • EveDeck's own footprint stays tiny throughout — no screen capture, no rendering pipeline of its own. Across a session it typically sits at 0–5% CPU and 150–500MB RAM depending on how many clients you're running, less than a single instance of Discord.
  • Stream-safe mode — toggle it from the tray or a hotkey — blanks every character name, solar system, and ISK figure across the overlays and flyouts, showing seats as "Alt 1, Alt 2, …" so you can stream or screenshot without leaking your pilots.
  • An optional downtime countdown parks a small clock on your layout, at whichever corner you pick, and warns you to dock up as EVE's daily downtime approaches — both the lead time and the exact UTC downtime are configurable.
  • Game-event alerts flash a seat and play a sound on in-game combat/aggression events read from EVE's gamelog.
  • System and offline pills show each seat's current solar system and flag disconnected clients at a glance, with a configurable per-seat delay before an offline pill disappears. Each system name gets its own consistent color, so a glance at the corner tiles tells you who's split off from the fleet.
  • Minimize-all and auto-minimize hotkeys clear your desktop or tuck away idle clients automatically; a per-seat 'never minimize' flag protects scouts you always want visible.
  • The centered master pill can use its own font, size, and color separate from the smaller corner alt pills.
  • A zoom-style hover preview option, and an evedeck:// link handler for one-click deep links from Discord or a browser.
  • Extend your desktop without buying a monitor: a phone or tablet connected over USB running a screen-extension app (SuperDisplay is a popular ~$15-lifetime option, unaffiliated with EveDeck) shows up to Windows as a normal display, ready for a custom multi-monitor profile.

Notifications

  • Toasts are styled like a modern chat app — the character's portrait, a clear title, and a slide-in animation — and are clickable to jump straight to that client.
  • Long alerts scroll inside the card instead of running down the whole screen, and hovering keeps a toast open so you have time to read and scroll it.
  • Toasts stay on top of the previews and of allow-listed apps (Discord, Mumble, ...) while they're on screen, with a toggle in Options if you'd rather they didn't.
  • The toast stack can anchor to any screen corner or edge (default bottom-right, above the system clock).
  • Every toast is also mirrored into the real Windows Notification Center, so alerts are still reviewable from the clock flyout after EveDeck's own popup has faded.
📋

Profile Sync

  • Auto-discovers all EVE settings folders under %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE — picks up every resolution and server.
  • Resolves character names from Fenris Creations' public ESI API and shows portraits for instant recognition.
  • Select one source character on the left, check any number of targets on the right, click Copy.
  • Also syncs per-account (core_user) files — window positions live there, so the copy is truly 1:1 and the UI is uniform across every client.
  • Originals are timestamped and backed up before overwriting — safe to undo by hand if needed.
🎙️

Comms overlay

  • A small companion plugin runs inside Mumble and streams who's-talking state to EveDeck over a local pipe — no window-pinning, no screen capture.
  • EveDeck draws its own themed panel with that data, styled to match the rest of the app, positioned anywhere on your layout.
  • Drag it anywhere, lock it in place when you're happy, and dial in its transparency so it never hides what's underneath.
  • Read-only by design: the plugin only ever reports names and talking state, never audio or messages.
  • One-click install from Options copies the plugin into Mumble; enable it once in Mumble's own Configure → Plugins → "EveDeck Talker Bridge".
🔔

Launch Groups

  • Character Sets keep multiple named rosters (e.g. a mining fleet vs. a combat fleet) so you can switch your whole lineup without re-linking accounts.
  • Launch Groups open the EVE Launcher once per character in a set, spaced by a configurable delay, instead of clicking Play by hand for every account.
